Birthday Sky

A couple of months ago, on my birthday, I drove down to Santa Fe.  As I drove down there were some heavy rain storms, followed by wonderful rainbows.  And as I drove back north again, there were some magnificent sunset cloud formations.  It felt as if the sky was celebrating my birthday with me.  Here are some photos I took:

Spring Is Springing

The photos below speak of spring in northern New Mexico to me.  The first photos show early morning ice crystals on the rear window and front windshield of my car, taken yesterday morning.  Aren't these formations beautiful?  And the last three photos show one of the many robins that seem to have suddenly appeared in great abundance around here, taken this morning... Ah, such charming little creatures!

Another Winter Moving In...

I noticed the exceptional light outside yesterday afternoon, so I grabbed my camera and stepped out into the cold and wet. Most of the leaves have already fallen from the trees on my street.

Looking up, I saw there were strange and wonderful storm clouds forming in the sky above me.

The hills behind the houses were already dusted with snow. They became more and more beautiful as the sun went down.

No Cats Crossing Today!

Here is what the sign at the end of my driveway looked Sunday morning when I got home from work. There's already a LOT of snow piled up- the bottom of the sign is at least a couple of feet high off the ground.

And here is what it looked like 24 hours later:

Still Snowing...

Looks like I'll be shoveling the driveway again later this morning. It snowed all day Monday, and now, at 3 AM Tuesday, it is still snowing. Here's a photo I just took, before heading off to a hot bath and then bed:

That red color on the left side of the photo is caused by light reflected from the nearby lights of town. The sky in that direction has an orange glow on nights like this.

Moon Angel

This was the moon going down last Sunday morning, when it was about five degrees below zero outside. It looked like a fat, luminous angel, slowly sinking down through the sky.

Icicle Images

Here in northern New Mexico, we've just gotten socked with a big snow storm. I was outside looking at the ice sickles that had formed above the front porch. (OK, yes, I really was just putting off shoveling out the driveway.) I took a few photos. In the one below I saw a couple of interesting shapes. Do you see any?

Below are the two shapes that I saw:

First Snow!

Well, there had already been snow on the mountain peaks, but today was the first snow of the season here in my yard! Hmmm, where did I put my snow shovel? Brrrrrrrrr...
