I am sure he would probably like both - box AND heater - at the same time.
I have a cousin cat in Connecticut who sleeps in front of the heater in the home office. Trouble is, the cat is large, the the heater is small, and she absorbs all the heat necessary to warm the room!
My one cat does that every time I bring the box for anything home, except he always tries to squeeze himself inside. He's big and fluffy, and sometimes it's a pretty tight fit.
